Showing

In the eighties, Glen of Imaal Terriers were rarely seen in the show ring. In recent years, though, this has begun to change. When a dog is shown, only its external appearance is judged. More and more people decide to breed from their animal and it is wise to show potential breeding animals to various judges. Some people show their Glens out of curiosity, or are asked by the breeder of their dog if they are willing to show it. Some people just like the fun and excitement of a show. Before the Glen is going to be shown, it is advisable to take a show-handling course. Furthermore the dog must look well-cared-for, not overly groomed, but the dog's attractive features should still stand out properly. In this chapter you can read how to prepare your dog before taking it to a dog show, what happens in the show ring and which shows you can go to.
