Character

To function as a working dog the Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier had to possess certain characteristics. As mentioned in the chapter about the Glen's hisorical background, this terrier was put into action for hunting fox and badger. He had to guard his owner's property, keep it free from vermin and keep a spit turning for hours on end. This is why,
right from the start, only dogs with the right passion for work were used for breeding purposes. In this chapter we look at the present-day Glen, keeping his working forebears in mind. It is clear that many of the original character traits are still present in today's dog.
